Stage Management

I view my role as facilitating clear, open lines of communication between parties, whether that be in a production meeting, a notes session, backstage, or in the booth. This motivation is present in my note taking, organization, binder building, and presence in the rehearsal room. One of the most important roles of a stage manager is to build an accessible, safe rehearsal room, and I do that by ensuring that my cast always feels that they can come to me with any concerns or questions.

I had a mentor at Pitt that insisted a Stage Manager never run. It was her opinion that unless someone was ‘actively bleeding out,’ it is essential that an SM model a calm attitude, even in times of stress. Despite stage management being a field where stress is inevitable, I take this advice very seriously, and utilize it in every rehearsal and performance spaces.
